The story follows a quiet, introverted high school boy who stumbles upon a diary in a hospital waiting room. It belongs to his vibrant and popular classmate, Sakura Yamauchi, who reveals through its pages that she’s suffering from a terminal pancreatic illness. Rather than retreating into despair, Sakura chooses to live her remaining days to the fullest—and she invites him to join her.

As they spend time together, their bond deepens. Sakura’s zest for life begins to thaw his emotional distance, and he learns to embrace vulnerability, friendship, and the bittersweet beauty of fleeting moments. The title, while jarring, is symbolic—rooted in a Japanese belief that eating an organ might heal the same organ in your own body. It becomes a metaphor for wanting to understand, connect with, and cherish someone completely.
