Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, written by Lewis Carroll (the pen name of Charles Lutwidge Dodgson), was first published on July 4, 1865, and is now celebrated as one of the greatest works of fantasy literature.

Carroll, a mathematician and logician, created the story for Alice Liddell, the young daughter of a family friend, during a boat trip in 1862. It eventually developed into the full-length novel that became a cultural classic.

The tale follows a young girl named Alice, who tumbles down a rabbit hole—yes, that’s where the phrase comes from—into the whimsical world of Wonderland. Over the years, Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland has been adapted into various forms of media, including Disney’s iconic 1951 animated film, Tim Burton’s 2010 live-action reimagining, as well as ballets, operas, video games, and theater productions.
