A new teaser trailer has been unveiled for AS ONE, the prequel anime film to Square Enix’s sci-fi arcade game Starwing Paradox. It was also revealed that Ruki Shiroiwa, a member of the boy group JO1, will voice the main character, Yo. The film is officially set to premiere in Japan on August 22, 2025.
Announced in March, AS ONE serves as a prequel set 20 years before the game’s events. The movie boasts an impressive staff lineup, including Kobun Shizuno, famed for directing numerous Detective Conan films, and Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, the legendary artist behind Neon Genesis Evangelion and The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, who returns to redesign the characters for this project.
Director Shizuno once shared about the character: "The essence of the story is in the melody played by the protagonist, Yo. As his song echoes through time and reaches Meguriboshi, long-hidden secrets from the original game will be revealed—secrets about Realide, the origins of Aerial, and the profound connection between Meguriboshi and Earth."
