Keiichi Arawi’s manga City originally ran from 2016 to 2021 in Kodansha’s Morning magazine, concluding with 13 volumes. After a three-year break, it returned on December 24, 2024. Vertical Comics licensed the English version, describing the story:
Created by the mind behind Nichijou, this surreal slapstick series follows Midori Nagumo, a broke college student living in an ordinary city filled with quirky inhabitants. As this impulsive girl navigates her days, she brings the city to life.
Midori is struggling with debt, dodging her landlady’s demands for overdue rent while her best friend refuses to lend her money after learning her tricks. She contemplates bullying or petty theft as solutions, but neither is sustainable. Maybe finding a job would help—but working would cut into her fun city adventures.
CITY THE ANIMATION marks KyoAni’s first new anime adaptation in six years.
