Keiichi Arawi’s City manga originally ran from 2016 to 2021 in Kodansha’s Morning magazine, concluding with 13 volumes. After a three-year hiatus, it returned on December 24, 2024. Vertical Comics licensed the English version, describing the story:
Created by the mind behind Nichijou, this surreal slapstick series follows Midori Nagumo, a broke college student living in a seemingly ordinary city filled with quirky characters. As her chaotic antics unfold, the city springs to life.
Midori faces financial troubles, with her landlady pressuring her for unpaid rent and her best friend refusing to lend her money after catching on to her tricks. Desperate, she considers bullying or petty theft, but neither proves sustainable. Maybe getting a job would help—if only it didn’t cut into her fun city escapades.
CITY THE ANIMATION marks KyoAni’s first new anime adaptation in six years.
