The Ogre’s Bride marks its TV anime debut and surpasses 5.8 million copies in circulation with an exciting new promo video:
Kureha, the author of the light novel series, shared: "Hello, my name is Kureha. 'The Ogre’s Bride' has officially been decided to become an anime! We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported and collaborated with us. This story began as a short tale of about 20,000 characters, evolved into a published book, then a comic, and now an anime, all thanks to the incredible support from so many people. I am thrilled to finally share what I envisioned in my mind now brought to life on screen. Thank you so much for supporting Onihana, and we hope for your continued encouragement for Oni no Hanayome."
Light novel illustrator Yu Shiroya also commented: "Congratulations on 'The Ogre’s Bride' becoming an anime! I am so excited to see my beloved Yuzu and Reiya, along with the other captivating characters, being brought to life with vibrant colors and personality. It has been an honor to contribute to such a significant project. I want to sincerely thank all the readers who have supported us, as well as Kureha-sensei, Togashi-sensei, and everyone involved in making this happen. We hope you will keep cheering for us!"
Jun Togashi, the artist of the manga adaptation, shared, “Congratulations on the TV anime adaptation of The Ogre’s Bride! I’m so excited to see how Yuzu, Reiya, and the little ogres will come to life—how they’ll look, talk, and move. I deeply appreciate everyone who has been part of this project and all the readers who have supported me.” You can also take a look at Togashi’s celebratory artwork for Oni no Hanayome’s anime adaptation below.
Oni no Hanayome (The Ogre’s Bride) by Kureha started as a short story on Start Publishing’s web novel platform, Novema, last updated on November 24, 2019. It was later fully rewritten on the platform, with its final update on May 24, 2020, before Starts Publishing released the first paperback volume on October 28 of the same year.
The story is serialized on Starts Publishing’s noicomi manga platform, with the first volume released under the noicomi COMICS imprint on August 26, 2022. On the same day, the first paperback volume of the light novel’s sequel series, Oni no Hanayome: Newlyweds Arc, was also published.
MangaPlaza publishes the English version of the manga as The Ogre’s Bride, describing it as a Japanese-style ayakashi Cinderella story. In this world, ayakashi and humans coexist, with the ayakashi occasionally choosing human women as their “brides,” granting them prosperity and unconditional love in return. Yuzu, constantly compared to her sister, who is married to a demon fox, is mistreated by her family. One day, when Yuzu feels at her lowest, a man—the most beautiful she has ever seen—appears before her on a bridge and calls her his wife. “Just be quiet and let me hold you,” he says, as the most powerful and “cold-hearted” ayakashi opens his heart to Yuzu.
