Demon Slayer Does It! Infinity Castle Shatters U.S. Anime Box Office Opening Day Records

(0 reviews)

Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle has shattered U.S. box office records for an anime, earning $33.0 million on its opening day (including $11 million from Thursday previews). It surpasses Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero's $10.9 million debut and Pokémon: The First Movie's $31.0 million weekend record from 1999 (around $60 million adjusted for inflation). With Saturday and Sunday figures still pending, Infinity Castle is set to extend its record further.

The film also outperformed Mugen Train, which earned $21.1 million in its opening weekend. Released in 3,315 theaters, Sony Pictures and Crunchyroll's launch of Infinity Castle far exceeds its predecessor's 1,605 theaters, positioning it to become the highest-grossing Japanese anime film ever. Directed by Haruo Sotozaki and produced by ufotable, the film continues to captivate audiences with its thrilling storyline and stunning visuals.

The story follows Tanjiro and the Hashira as they prepare for the ultimate battle against the demons. Muzan Kibutsuji disrupts their training by attacking the Ubuyashiki Mansion, plunging them into the mysterious Infinity Castle—a stronghold of the demons. The stage is set for an epic showdown as the Demon Slayer Corps fights to protect humanity.
