Set in a fictional realm inspired by Imperial China's Tang Dynasty, the narrative centers on Maomao, a young apothecary from the red-light district who is abducted and sold into servitude at the Imperial Palace. Despite her circumstances, she maintains her inquisitive and unconventional demeanor, intending to serve quietly until her term ends. However, upon hearing that the emperor's children are gravely ill, she employs her apothecary skills to uncover the cause and successfully unravels the illness's mystery. While she wishes to keep her identity hidden, her deeds inadvertently draw the attention of a powerful eunuch, leading her to become the solver of various enigmas within the royal court.
